Do you know how cool is speaking with 70 people at the same time in a Facebook group? We had a great time in Esztergom and in Budapest this capricious April with the BUMS (Bristol University Music Society), who is a chamber orchestra with 70 members.
First, they played in the Basilica of Esztergom, called St. Adalbert Cathedral what is the first biggest church in Hungary and the third biggest cathedral in Europe! Despite the cold between the walls of the church a lot of people took a seat and listened to the beautiful melodies.
Their second concert venue was a huge cultural hall in the Buda Hills, a well-known, popular venue for the district cultural life. The concert itself was phenomenal. Listen to the Hungarian Dances from Brahms was touching and electrifying at the same time as a Hungarian. These rhythms and tunes are in our veins and the public felt the same.
Third, they returned again to a sacred place. Saint Stephen’s Basilica gave a venue for an enchanting choir performance with classical sacred piece of music and with full rows in the church.
The group enjoyed this tour in Hungary, they took part in several interesting programs too: wonderful river cruise on the Danube, relaxing spa experience in our most famous bath, Széchenyi Thermal Bath and have an authentic farewell dinner on the last evening with live gypsy music. It was a very nice closure when the musician in the restaurant played on his violin the Hungarian Dances from Brahms.
It was really good to be a part of a big group like the BUMS, we hope they will return soon!
